A dense evergreen with a strongly fissured trunk and dark glossy foliage, carrying cream flowers that scent the air at dusk. Long-lived, wind-firm and hard-timbered — a tree specified where permanence is the point.

Landscape use
Parks, campuses, civic and institutional grounds, and avenue planting where a permanent evergreen structure is wanted. Holds its canopy year-round, so shade is continuous rather than seasonal.
The evening scent makes it particularly effective near seating, terraces and walkways used after dark.
